Rapid Reaction: BC starts ACC play with a W at Maryland

I wanted to put this post off til Monday, so I could see the rankings.

-What a finish. BC just kept answering MD and made clutch shot after clutch shot. No shot was more clutch than Raji's last three. Good to see we can step up late in games.
-Some people may be worried at the alarming number of threes we took, but most if not all, were good looks. I have no problem with chucking up thirty threes a game if they are that wide open, because it does look like we can stroke it.
-Paris had another scoring outburst with 22. Where was his shooting last year?? He is embracing his new role in the offense.
-Loved the balance on offense, Raji with 11, Jackson with 16, Paris with 22, Trap with 10 and Rubin with 9.
-I was disappointed with our defense. I know Williams is a beast, but we were too inconsistent.
-BC received one vote in the AP poll! Texas A&M is now ranked 25th after a big win vs Washington. That win BC had against the Aggies is starting to look rather nice.
-BC goes back to the cupcakes when they face Bryant on Sunday, the 19th.

Rapid Reaction: BC barely holds on to beat PC

Wow! I think that shot went in...

-What a finish. BC couldn't buy a free throw late, and it almost came back to bite them. We should have won by a lot more, but a win is a win.
-The Eagles had many chance to put the Friars away. Unfortunately, they had to make it a nailbiter. PC was hot from deep late, and as I said, we couldn't hid a foul shot.
-Reggie had another great night. Southern had his second straight huge game. Moton had two threes, which was good to see.
-Trapani did not impress me again. I know he had 14, but he went 4 for 14 and 1 for 5 from deep. He needs to get his confidence back
-Providence looks like a decent team, so this win, as I said in the last post, will look nice on our resume.
-Now it's time for big boy basketball. ACC play starts on Sunday, when the Eagles travel to Maryland. This will be a good, early season gauge for our team. I think we have a chance to make the big dance, based on what I've seen.

Providence @ BC-Tonight, 7:00

No, it's not on tv, but tonight is actually a big game for the Eagles. Tonight, we face the Providence Friars. Although the Friars do not look like a great team this year (only winning their exhibition by 7,) they are still a Big East team. Any win vs a Big East team is great for a tourney resume. Right now, BC is ranked 22nd in RPI, and another win would only help. The guys are playing some great ball, and have a chance to pick up another non-conference win. By the way, Providence beat Yale, 58-55 on November 15th. Just sayin'.

Weekend Recap

First of all, sorry for the lateness, I've been crazy busy the last week (this won't happen again until a very, very long time.) But it was a big weekend for BC, so let's review, starting on Friday.

Friday
-BC women's soccer falls to Stanford in Nat'l Semifinal
The magical season and tournament came to an end for BC on Friday, when they lost 2-0 to Stanford in the College Cup. Although they came up short, the team impressed a lot of people this year. Congratulations to them.
-BC hockey beats BU, 9-5
Wow, 9 goals against Boston University?? You mean the BU that's number 2 in the nation. You know what they say, sucks to BU.

Saturday
-BC defeats UMASS in the Garden
In another thriling game, BC held off the Minutemen in the second half, to get to 6-2. Southern had a big night, and Reggie had some killer dunks.
BC Sweeps BU
For the second night in a row, BC put up a nice crooked number on the second ranked Terriers. Can you say overrated?? Good weekend for York and the boys.

Sunday

-BC accepts bid to play in Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl
As a lot of people expected, we will be going back to San Fran this year. We'll be taking on Colin Kaepernick (spell check?) and Nevada. I'll have another post on the matchup but I do think this will be an entertaining game.

Where will BC go bowling this year?

Towards the end of the regular season, it appeared as if BC was destined for San Fran and the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. However, after what has gone on in the ACC in the last week, BC's bowl location is up in the air. So I decided to take a look at all of the possible scenarios.

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

This was where we went last year, when it was simply known as the Emerald Bowl, in San Fransisco. The game was supposed to place a Pac-10 team and a WAC team together, but the Pac-10 did not have enough bowl eligible teams to fill the spot. There are a few WAC teams that could be placed in the game, including Boise, Nevada, and Fresno St. I think from a competition standpoint, this would be the most intriguing. However, being there last year, I am not sure how many fans would be excited enough to buy tickets.

Military Bowl
In what would be coined as "The Dominique Davis Bowl," there is a good chance we could land in Washington DC, taking on East Carolina December 29th. Unlike the Kraft bowl, I think BC could sell some tickets to this game. However, I am not thrilled with a 2:30 game on a Wednesday afternoon.

Sun Bowl
A few weeks ago, it looked like Miami was a lock for this game. However, after they fired their coach, they became much less attractive for the Sun Bowl. The Sun Bowl commish actually came out and said that BC is a definite contender for the game. The game is on New Year's Eve at noon. I don't think ticket sales are a big deal for the bowl committee.

Before you freak out, I know there is a chance BC goes to Louisiana for the Independence Bowl. However, I really do not think we will be going there. Personally, I would like to see BC go to the Military Bowl. I know the competition wouldn't be as good as say, the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, but we have yet to go to this bowl and I think we would have a pretty good fan showing. There would also be a nice little storyline with Dominique.

Rapid Reaction: Eagles take down Indiana in ACC/Big Ten Challenge

Sorry for the delay, internet was down.

-Is it just me, or have these last four game gotten you very excited? BC is playing some good, entertaining basketball. Donahue has already put his mark on this program.
-Reggie Jackson was spectacular with 27 points. It was great to see that he wanted the ball in his hands late. He can be a great closer for this team
-The second half started rocky, but as McDonough said, BC had an answer for everything, and it was often a three ball.
-Speaking of the three ball, Danny Rubin had some clutch ones in the second half. This freshman is great for this offense.
-Biko Paris had 18, which was great to see.
-The Eagles will take on UMASS Saturday at the Garden.
